The Queen’s birthday long weekend in June lands conveniently on the second weekend of winter in Australia. That means I’m looking for warmer surrounds and somewhere to enjoy a dip before the Sydney winter kicks in. Hamilton Island winter is not like real winter. It is the perfect respite.
Hamilton Island winter weather is better than the locals let on
You may find Hamilton Island locals wearing heavy jumpers and beanies. This is misleading and can only be due to acclimatisation. If you’ve come from anywhere south of Hamilton Island, you are near guaranteed to find a more pleasant climate from whence you came. In the Whitsundays, your winter sees highs of 21-24 degrees. It is a wonderful spot to find some warmth, accompanied by rich blue skies.
Door to door service and champagne on arrival
One of the perks of staying at Hamilton Island Beach Club (Qualia also has a similar service) is the door to door service. Rolling off the plane, your bags are collected by a Beach Club host and you’re piled into a minivan to head towards relaxation. Not a bad start to a Hamilton Island winter break.
Beach Club nails check in with a glass of champagne by the pool in the sun. It’s a smooth, care free start to a trip that immediately puts you into holiday mode.
Catseye Beach views
If the champers hasn’t put you into holiday mode yet, the view over Catseye Beach must. At the point of check in, the tide was out, making Catseye Beach much bigger than normal. A wander out in low tide to the water is a delightful way to spend part of an afternoon. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a sting ray or two when you finally hit the water.
There are two levels at Beach Club, all facing the beach. We stayed on the upper level on this occasion, having previously stayed on the ground floor. My recommendation would be to opt for a top floor to give yourself a water view. Downstairs is not shabby, and you might find a wallaby or two swing by your room in the early morning.
Rooms are well sized with two single lounges, a coffee table and a desk. An in room safe keeps your valuables in check and the wardrobe has enough room for you various swim attire. I’ll admit, the beds at Beach Club couldn’t be comfier.
The bathroom is modern and well sized. On par with ours at home if we’re being honest.
Breakfast is a real treat. There is an a la carte menu with a variety of options including your eggs any which way. A range of accompaniments, and a daily chef’s special. A limited buffet is also provided. This includes fruit, croissants, baked goods, cereal and yoghurt assortments.
It’s hard to go wrong at Hamilton Island Beach Club if you need a sunshine getaway and to escape the winter chills.
